Many children in our educational programs have to walk extensive hours in soil roads to get to school. This obstructs children from attending school every day or getting there on time as some of them have to walk up to two hours to get to school and then make the 2 hour trip back home. Thanks to the new partnership with Bikes for the World, on February 2010 the first shipment of almost 600 used bicycles and parts was shipped to El Salvador for free distribution to beneficiary children who live far away from schools. Now beneficiary children have been reported to attend school regularly, and improved in their academic standing. This project also helped our income generation program since voluntary parents have signed up to open small bicycle shops in order to help fix the bicycles and help them with some income generation. Our second container with used bicycles and parts (tubes, tires, chins, shop equipment), will be shipped July 2010. |
