Erradication of Child Labor
|
|
El Salvador was faced with a challenging problem in which children were working to help their parents to supplement income and were not attending school. As a consequence of this, we incorporated parents into our income generation program, and encouraged all children to assist school. FUSAL has worked with financing from OIT so that children who work in fishing and sugar industries can retire from the work force and instead get an education. FUSAL also educates parents in ways that prove that child labor is detrimental to their children, emphasizes children's right of education, and the benefits of education towards children's development. FUSAL has incorporated a program called Educational Leveling Classes, which level children that did not assist school to their correct grade level according to their age. Children who attend these leveling classes are prepared before entering their respective grade level, and receive tutoring classes while in school to assure they keep up with the program as pass the grade for that year. The Program also teaches children to develop leadership skills and self esteem. Children are given scholastic tools to aide in the reincorporation to school. This project is conducted in Acajutla, Cuisnahuat, Jiquilisco and the lake zone of Jaltepeque. |
