Letter from the President of the board

In 2022, SAHF and its directors see an enormous opportunity to help Salvadorans in need. The World-Wide pandemic that started in March of 2020 has increased the number of people living in poverty from 1.8 million to 2.4 million.

This year, our primary focus will be helping this vulnerable population with their food security and healthcare needs. Our goal is to teach them good nutrition and support them with food kits. Additionally, SAHF seeks donations of medicines, medical supplies, food, clothing, and educational materials from its in-kind donors to support our existing extensive network of beneficiaries.

In 2021 SAHF was able to send nearly 25 million dollars in value of in-kind goods in a total of 71 shipments. We are genuinely grateful that eleven organizations have donated these items and helped us support people in need of these urgently needed supplies. We continue to work with each of these USA organizations and strengthen our relationships with them.

We are, also, supporting programs for Early Childhood Development in 5 different areas of El Salvador and over 250 communities. One of SAHF's initiatives that we have been very proud to fully fund for the past four years, is a bilingual program where nearly 1,100 children from kindergarten to high school are learning English as a second language. This will provide these financially disadvantaged children an opportunity to have better lives in their future. In this manner. we help strengthen a generation by giving them the tools to better themselves and their families.

Our vision continues to be a future where all Salvadorans, can meet their basic human needs. SAHF's board of directors and staff are grateful that you are a part of our success.

Thank you for your continued support and look forward to a very effective 2022.

Regards,

In 2021 SAHF received a donation from its in-kind partner, Direct Relief of Factor 8. This readily available medication in El Salvador treats patients with hemophilia. The donation was then distributed by our in-country sister foundation FUSAL in December. SAHF and FUSAL, thank Direct Relief for making this life-impacting donation.

WeNOURISH

SAHF and FUSAL's work in public health has revealed the impact nutrition has on a person's general wellbeing. The program was piloted in Apaneca, where malnutrition rates were as high as 47%. WeNOURISH-Apaneca has seen an 36% drop in malnutrition rates since work began there. Historically, over 18 communities and more than 200,000 participants throughout El Salvador have been served.

WeEMPOWER

Since 2017, SAHF has sponsored the English Language program for approximately 1,200 students at Residencial Libertad's educational complex. The program now also provides instruction for high school students and aligns with SAHF's human development mission by believing that learning English can pave the way for more significant opportunities.

Reinforcing English in Residencial Libertad

We are so proud of the work that we have been able to accomplish and the lives we have been able to change for the better. With the help of Salvadoran American Paulina Lainez, we were able to help teachers by reinforcing their knowledge of English. Paulina is the owner and founder of Reinforce English Solutions a company that helps others who need to “reinforce” their English skills to a proficiency or confidence to speak in a professional environment.

Together we found a way to help give students one of the tools they need to succeed.

WeAID

In the event of a natural or human-made disaster, SAHF extends its support and increases efforts to collect in-kind aid in the United States to ship it to El Salvador. Additionally, specific funds are activated to facilitate and increase monetary donations. Donations to the WeAID fund allow for immediate purchases to be made locally for those in need and support the impacted area's economy.

WePARTNER

Throughout the years, SAHF and the WePARTNER Program have served as a conduit for US donors interested in supporting the missions of local partner NGO’s by giving a grant and/or donation to SAHF to be made available to a designated charitable organization in El Salvador. Before accepting donations for other organizations, they must be approved by SAHF’s board of directors. In 2021 we sent $770,006 to 17 different organizations in El Salvador.

Financials

A fundamental principle for SAHF and how it carries out its mission is to maintain a firm policy of full transparency in its finances, especially in how the organization uses the donations that it receives each year.
